Kawhi Leonard joins Clippers, Not Going Alone

As Friday came to an end and Saturday began, NBA fans got the news we’ve all been waiting for. It was announced that Kawhi Leonard would be taking his talents to Southern California as a member of the Los Angeles…..Clippers?

Yes, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Kawhi Leonard will be signing with the Los Angeles Clippers on a four-year $142 million contract. However, Kawhi will not be joining the Clippers alone.

As news of Kawhi joining the Clippers broke, we were given news that he would be joined by Paul George. I don’t think you heard me Kawhi Leonard will be joining the Los Angeles Clippers along with Paul George!

In a move that shocked everyone, the Clippers acquired Paul George in a trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for forward Danilo Gallinari, guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, four unprotected first-round picks, one protected first-round pick and two pick swaps.

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George will join a Clippers team that went 48-34 last season led by reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams, guard Patrick Beverly as well as improved big man Montrezl Harrell and coach Doc Rivers.

The Clippers played well in the playoffs taking the eventual Western Conference champion Golden State Warriors to six games in the first round. Lou Williams was the star of the series averaging 21.7 points per game and 7.7 assists per game. This series is well-known for Patrick Beverly challenging Kevin Durant guarding him and getting under his skin for most of the series.

The Clippers have a chance to make history as they have never made it to the Western Conference Finals in their franchise’s history. This year’s team will certainly have a chance to break that streak as they are possibly the favorite to make it to the NBA Finals with their acquisition of Leonard and George.

It will be interesting to see how things play out for the Clippers next season.
