Is it me or has 2019 just not been a good year for star receiver Antonio Brown? I mean it just seems that trouble seems to follow him where ever he goes. Anything that can go wrong for Antonio Brown this year has gone wrong for Brown. This man has taken the Madden curse to a completely different level. This Madden curse without a doubt tops all of the other curses and may not be topped any time soon. The Madden 19 cover man has continued to be in the news for all of the wrong reasons. From missing practices to beefing with old teammates to beefing with with Hall of Fame players turned broadcaster now to sexual assault allegations, Antonio Brown just can not seem to stay out of trouble. Here are some highlights of what has been an eventful 2019 for Antonio Brown.
Posting old private direct message from JuJu Smith Schuster trying to expose him
Says he and Ben Roethlisberger were never friends in response to the QB’s interview
Threatened to not play football again unless he was able to wear a banned helmet
Making a Youtube video reacting to being released by the Oakland Raiders
Losing his Nike and Xenith endorsements amidst sexual assault allegations
Finally sending threatening text messages to a second sexual misconduct accuser
The sexual assault allegations seems to have been the last straw for the New England Patriots as they made the decision to release Antonio Brown on Friday after 12 days and one game with the team. Now this obviously does not mean that Brown is guilty of the accusations facing him but it does not help matters. The threatening text messages to the sexual assault accuser are also very alarming and could hurt Brown’s case if it goes to court. Not even a full week after being released by the Patriots, Antonio Brown put the spotlight back on himself announcing via Twitter, because of course he did, that he will no longer play in the NFL. No really he announced early this morning that he is done in the NFL here’s proof…
I can’t stop looking at this line in Brown’s tweet where he says, “the owners can cancel deals do whatever they want at anytime we will see if the @NFLPA hold them accountable sad.” Is it not ironic that the man known for his selfish behavior wants to call out owners for doing whatever they wanted. The difference between what Antonio Brown has done and what he is calling out NFL owners for doing is the owners are doing whatever they want at the best interest of the teams they own whereas Antonio Brown only thinks about himself. He continues to call people out on social media, burning bridges where ever he goes and it is costing him from a business and personal standpoint.
Antonio Brown has some soul searching to do because his personal livelihood is now on the line. He has missed out on a $30 million guaranteed contract with the Oakland Raiders, may miss out on his $10 million guaranteed contract with the Patriots and could lose a big chunk of money in settlement to avoid taking his sexual misconduct cases to court. I tried my hardest to find a bright side to this saga, believe me I tried, and I could not come up with something that was plausible. Even if he wasn’t serious about never playing in the NFL again, how sure are we that a team would want to take a chance on signing him after seeing all that Brown has gone through this year. Which is a shame because when focused, Antonio Brown is one of the best receivers in the NFL today. However, he has burned so many bridges that I’m not sure where his next opportunity is going to come in or out football.
Let this be a lesson to all aspiring football players at every level, no matter how talented a player is, no one is irreplaceable.
