Where I would want NBA’s Top Free Agents to Sign

To be clear this is not a prediction of where I think NBA’s top free agents will sign. This is my personal preference of where I would want free agents to sign if I had my way. Some of these could possibly happen some may not this is basically wishful thinking based on how I think players would fit with certain teams. Also, it is based on who I would like to see certain players team up with. I will be giving my free agency predictions soon but for now this is where I would like to see some of the NBA’s top free agents sign.

Kevin Durant: Portland Trail Blazers

This is one that I have wanted to see happen for years now. Before anybody says anything no this has absolutely nothing to do with the Blazers passing up on KD in the draft. This has everything to do with me wanting to see KD team up with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. These three together would form the best scoring trios in the NBA today and one of the most clutch trios we’ve ever seen. I wish KD would have signed with Portland instead of Golden State when he was a free agent in 2016 but we can’t always get what we want.

Kawhi Leonard: Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz was not my original choice for Kawhi Leonard, but after seeing the Jazz have traded for Mike Conley, it makes me want to see this. Imagine Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, Kawhi Leonard and Rudy Gobert on the same team. That would be without a doubt the best defensive team and possibly the best all-around team in the league. This would be like the grit and grind Grizzlies teams but much better offensively and would for sure be a championship threat each year.

Klay Thompson: Oklahoma City Thunder

As I said before, some of these scenarios may not be possible. This is probably the most least likely to happen seeing as the Thunder have the least amount of cap space in the NBA. However, I would love to see it if it were possible because it gives the Thunder some much needed shooting without losing their defensive edge. The fact that Klay is great off the ball on offense with his catch and shoot ability makes him the ideal shooting guard to pair alongside ball dominant guys like Russell Westbrook and Paul George. Another reason is Russ, Klay and PG are three of my favorite players in the league the fact that they would be a good fit alongside each other is just a bonus.

Kyrie Irving: Phoenix Suns

To be honest, this has nothing to do with how Kyrie fits with the team. Quite frankly, it doesn’t make much sense in terms of how he fits with the team. The only reason and I literally mean the only reason I would want to see this is to see Kyrie Irving and Devin Booker in the same backcourt. It sucks seeing Devin Booker ballin’ out with the Suns but never winning because the team is so trash. At least if he was paired with Kyrie we would have a fun backcourt scoring duo to watch. The team wouldn’t be very good but like I said Irving and Booker would be fun to watch.

Jimmy Butler: Milwaukee Bucks

Whether or not Khris Middleton re-signs with the Milwaukee Bucks, Jimmy Butler would be a great addition to the team. Adding Jimmy Butler to an already stacked lineup would easily make the Bucks better on both sides of the ball. Not to mention a duo of him alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo would arguably be one of the best duos in the league. A team with Jimmy, Giannis, Khris Middleton, Eric Bledsoe, Malcolm Brogdon and Brook Lopez could easily dominate in the Eastern Conference and be a championship threat in the league. I haven’t even mentioned how fun it would be to watch Jimmy Butler with the Bucks with all the athleticism on that hypothetical team.

Kemba Walker: San Antonio Spurs

I have to be honest once again, I don’t really know why I would want to see this happen. There’s something about it that intrigues me but I just don’t know what it is. Before this past season, I was saying I would want Kyrie Irving to sign with the Spurs but after seeing how both players played this past season I changed my answer to Kemba. I mean sure Kemba and Demar Derozan would make for a very good backcourt but I’ve already seen Demar and Kyle Lowry so its not like I’m clamoring to see these two together. I guess I’d like to see what impact Gregg Popovich would have on him so there’s that. To save some time I’d also like to see D’Angelo Russell sign with the Spurs for the exact same reason that I said for Kemba.
